Some vehicles don’t really need much of an introduction, and the Ford F-150 has to be one of those that fall squarely into that category. It's not only the biggest-selling full-size-light duty pickup truck in America; it's also the biggest-selling vehicle of any type. That's impressive but not as impressive as the vehicle itself so let's take a closer look at the 2019 Ford F-150.

Exterior styling

There isn’t a more distinctive and good-looking pickup on the market other than the Ford-F150 at the moment, but the Ford F-150 truck seems to strike a sweet spot where it's hard to find fault. Yes, it's a typical boxy full-size pickup, but it's modern enough and macho enough to appeal to traditional truck buyers without going too far in that direction and alienating those who don’t want an overtly macho and rugged vehicle. Trim levels

On the face of things, the 2019 F-150 lineup is straightforward with seven different models to choose from. The regular range is made up of the XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Limited. Of course, there is another model, which sits in terms of price between the King Ranch and the Platinum, and that model is the near-legendary Raptor.

Engines

There are almost as many engines to choose from for the 2019 F-150 as there are trim levels. The six powerplants start off with the standard 3.3-liter naturally aspirated V-6, which develops 290 horsepower and 265 lb.-ft. of torque. Next up is the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 turbo, which then gives the truck 325 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque.

The classic Ford 5.0-liter V-8 is your next option with 395 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque, and then we have a pair of 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbos. The first of the pair develops 375 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque, but the headline act is the High Output version that's only available with the Raptor and the Limited and develops 450 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque. Those who prefer diesel are also catered for these days, with the option of a 3.0-liter Power Stroke V-6 turbodiesel that offers 250 horsepower and 440 lb.-ft. of torque and some impressive fuel economy ratings.

Transmissions

The base 3.3-liter V-6 comes mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that sends the power to the rear or all four wheels, but the rest of the powerplants come mated to that sensational Ford 10-speed automatic.

Features and equipment
