Best Ford Buy Once They Phase Out Sedans

Ford is phasing out sedans – what should you buy now?

For decades, crossovers and SUVs have been edging out the once-popular family sedan. Now, Ford’s CEO Jim Hackett has announced the company will phase out most of its North American four-door lineup. What should you buy once the Ford Fiesta sedan, Focus, Fusion, and Taurus are gone?

Ford Sedan alternatives

Ford SUV and truck sales currently make up 90 percent of Ford’s North American sales. Sedans, on the other hand, have been costing the company $800 million per year in losses. It’s been a long time coming, but four-doors are on the way out. These alternatives will get you through once the inevitable happens.

Ford hatchback models

So far, Ford hasn’t said it plans to dispose of its hatchback lineup. That means the 5-door variants of the Focus and Fiesta will be around – at least for now.

Fiesta: The Ford Fiesta is a subcompact car that’s big on value and efficiency. Its sloping roofline provides plenty of room for five passengers and cargo, making it an excellent sedan alternative.

Focus: Likewise, the compact Ford Focus offers ample space for five occupants and their gear. Its longer wheelbase makes it even more versatile than the small fiesta.

Both cars offer a long lineup of drivetrain and equipment options. The Focus can even be had with an all-electric powertrain. No matter what you’re looking for, there’s a Ford hatchback that will fit the bill.

Ford crossover models

Crossovers earned their name for a reason – they’re not quite an SUV or a car. Instead, they’re the best of both worlds, making them the ideal sedan replacement. Ford crossovers include the EcoSport, Escape, Edge, and Flex.

EcoSport: All-new in North America for 2018, the EcoSport is the smallest member of the Ford crossover lineup. It’s nimble and easy to drive, yet still provides room for up to five passengers.

Escape: Ford’s five-passenger compact crossover, the Escape, has been in vogue since its debut in 2001. It’s unparalleled versatility, and relentless capability have kept it in continual favor.

Edge: The Ford Edge is a midsize crossover that’s comparable in size and performance to the Taurus. It can seat up to five passengers in comfort and style.

Flex: The Ford Flex is best known for its distinctive styling. But underneath that unique sheet metal, you’ll find a capable and versatile seven-passenger crossover. That’s right – seven passengers, something you could never accommodate in your Ford Fusion.

All Ford crossovers are stocked with the latest technology and powertrain options. Once you give them a try, you may not miss your sedan.

Ford Mustang

If you’ve owned a Taurus for years, you might want to throw caution to the wind and get a Ford Mustang. Sure, there’s only room for two underweight passengers in the back, but nothing is cooler than a ‘Stang. Well, except possibly the Ford GT.
