2019 Ford Fiesta for Sale in Southfield, MI

We spend a lot of time thinking about the practical things when it comes time to choose a new vehicle, and rightly so. The problem is, we could end up spending too little time thinking about the joy and fun of driving. Ok, not everyone will be able to manage with a car with the diminutive proportions of the Ford Fiesta, but if you can, and you enjoy driving for the sake of driving, you could be missing out if you haven’t tried one. The 2019 Ford Fiesta won’t be around forever, so here's why you should check one out, a new one, while you still can.

Exterior styling

The Fiesta is a subcompact car that's available in hatch and sedan body styles, and perhaps unusually, the hatch is probably the more attractive of the pair. That could be because the Fiesta was designed from day one over in Europe as a hatch, and the sedan was pretty much created to please us here in the American market. The Ford Fiesta can, therefore, look quite different, especially when we go up the trim levels. It might not be as angular and cutting-edge as it was a few years ago, but this is still a very good-looking little car, especially in its sporty ST form.

Powertrain

Many of the Fiesta’s you'll come across will be powered by a 1.6-liter inline-four that develops 120 horsepower and 112 lb.-ft. of torque. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, but a six-speed automatic is available. For a while, there was an exceptional three-cylinder EcoBoost turbo that was winning awards around the world, but it didn't find favor with American buyers who don’t need to be as concerned about fuel economy as their European counterparts.

If you want the most fun and frolics the Fiesta has to offer you’re going to want to get a Fiesta ST. That's because you'll then be getting a 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder developing 197 horsepower and 202 lb.-ft. of torque. To further emphasize the sporty credentials of the ST, the only transmission available for this model is a six-speed manual.

Performance

You don’t have to go for the ST to enjoy the Fiesta. Non-ST variants are still fabulous to drive, thanks to the Fiesta's light weight, smooth engine, fabulous manual transmission and great chassis. There's even a chunky steering wheel to further reinforce the car's sporty intentions.

For a car weighing less than 3,000 pounds even with a full gas tank and driver onboard, the near-200 horsepower EcoBoost engine in the ST is an absolute blast. It's not too much for the car's outstanding chassis, and if you really get to put it through its paces you'll wonder why front-drive hatchbacks aren’t more of a thing than they are.

Trim levels

The Fiesta is available in S, SE, ST-Line and ST trim levels. The S is equipped with all the essentials for a budget-price modern car, but after that, the Fiesta is quite generous. The ST-Line is a trim level that's quite new to Ford here in America, while it’s been doing good business for a while overseas. It doesn’t have the engine and performance of an ST, but it is very well equipped and has some of the best sporty styling elements of the ST.

Fuel economy

With the automatic transmission, the EPA rates the Fiesta at 27 mpg in the city, 37 mpg on the highway and 31 mpg combined. Sticking with the five-speed manual drops those figures slightly to 27/35/30 mpg. The ST returns 26/33/29 mpg, but it's a small price to pay for so much fun. *

*EPA-estimated city/hwy mpg for the model indicated. See fueleconomy.gov for fuel economy of other engine/transmission combinations. Actual mileage will vary. On plug-in hybrid models and electric models, fuel economy is stated in MPGe. MPGe is the EPA equivalent measure of gasoline fuel efficiency for electric mode operation.
