Detroit area shoppers in the market for an SUV have plenty of options at our Southfield dealership, including the new Ford Explorer and new Ford Edge. Both midsize SUVs offer powerful powertrain options, a great amount of space for both passengers and cargo, as well as excellent handling.

One major difference between the two, however, is the 2023 Ford Explorer seats up to seven passengers, compared to a maximum of five in the 2023 Ford Edge. With a lesser amount of passengers to consider, the Edge does offer more overall room for backseat passengers compared to the Explorer.

Ford Explorer vs. Ford Edge

The Explorer and Edge offer just about the same amount of efficiency, with the ability to travel similar distances before needing to stop at the gas station. In addition to being a bit bigger than its counterpart, the new Ford Explorer adds one more engine option:

  • 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with up to 300 horsepower
  • 3.3-liter V6 cylinder gas/electric hybrid engine with up 318 horsepower
  • 3.0-liter V6 cylinder engine with up to 400 horsepower

Those looking for a hybrid engine may lean towards the Explorer, as the 2023 Edge features two gas-only options:

  • 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with up to 250 horsepower
  • 2.7-liter V6 cylinder engine with up to 335 horsepower

The Explorer boasts towing superiority as well, with a maximum capacity of 5,600 pounds to 3,500 pounds in the Edge.
