The convenience of a Ford key fob may be overlooked, but it allows you to easily lock and unlock your vehicle, entering and exiting without a second thought. When your key fob battery starts to wear down, you may start to notice some of the following issues:

  • Reduced range when locking or unlocking your Ford
  • Push-button start delays or does not recognize your Ford key fob

Step-by-Step Instructions For Replacing Your Ford Key Fob

  1. First, you will need a small flat-tip screwdriver and a replacement battery compatible with your Ford key fob
  2. Remove the mechanical key by pressing the button near the silver end of your key fob and pulling the mechanical key out 
  3. Use the mechanical key to lift the Ford-logo side of your key fob upward, and reveal the battery inside
  4. Use the small screwdriver to remove the old battery from the key fob by inserting into the grooves and lifting upward
  5. Insert your new battery into the key fob (plus-side facing up), and ensure that the battery clips into place
  6. Put the removed Ford-logo side back onto the rest of your key fob
  7. Re-insert the mechanical key into the rest of the key fob
