Why is My Tire Pressure Light On?

One of the many lights that can illuminate on your Ford dashboard comes from the vehicle’s tire-pressure monitoring system, or TPMS. This small light is present to inform you of low air pressure in one or more of your Ford tires. Your tire pressure light (TPMS) is on because one or more tires are at least 25% under-inflated, or because of a malfunction in the monitoring system.

Generally, the light comes on when the air pressure in one or more tires is outside the recommended range. You can usually find the recommended amount of air to inflate your tires with on the small label on the driver’s side’s door jamb.

What If My Tire Pressure Light Turns On and Off?

If the tire pressure light comes on and turns off shortly after, this could be attributed to fluctuating temperatures. This usually happens when tire pressure decreases overnight due to a drop in ambient temperature, causing the light to turn on. The light may turn off once the pressure increases during the day and the temperature warms back up.
